Software
William Hill Poker offer a software package which is regarded to be one of the best in the industry. The graphics are appealing, bright and very clear. In fact, it could very well be the most good-looking graphical 2D table and lobby of all online rooms. But there’s more under the shell. A lot of functionality is built in and you can change the visuals and miscellaneous settings to make your client act like you want it to. Player notes are supported, buddy lists as well, but first and foremost, a very nice hand history playback feature. The only disability would be the way you sort rooms in terms of stakes, but taking that aside, this is a solid package.
The 3D perspective offers a refreshing angle that many other online internet poker rooms do not provide.
Features include:
- Dual Viewing Modes - Both the 3D perspective as well as the regular 'top down' view are available for all poker players, who may wish to use it.
- Player Notes - Those essential notes are easy to view and use at William Hill Poker. If you're serious about your poker, you'll need use these regularly.
- Buddy List - Keep track of your friends (or enemies/poker opponents etc) at William Hill Poker. This handy buddy list is lightning fast to use.
- Extra Games - Need to relax and not think about poker for a few minutes? Try blackjack, 3 card poker or video poker here.
William Hill Poker: How easy is it to make money here?
William Hill Poker has a fair mix of poor and good poker players. There is the usual number of fish-like, passive call stations, but also some fairly good poker players which without a doubt will set traps and slow-play in the ring poker games.
The quality of player at William Hill Poker is something which will be considered either an attraction or a turn-off by different players. While it’s not quite of a high enough standard for any player to consider it as pitting their skills against the best in the online poker circuit, it is just high enough to make consistent profit difficult. This, of course, can be looked at as either an advantage or a disadvantage, either as breaking even but getting plenty of practice or as wasting time making significant progress with neither your game nor your bankroll.
It is most likely the lack of traffic at this poker room which tends to lead to a higher standard of player, or looked at another way, which keeps the schools of clueless fish in another pond. The lack of high-roll action is another reason for the scarcity of easy pickings here, which is a pity since, as any good player knows, a large amount of bad players with deep pockets is always desirable. CD’s association with casino play will always guarantee some weaker opponents, while a good low-limit Omaha player may find some soft targets as there aren’t likely to be many other good players in this discipline due to the limited number of games available.
Player traffic
Being a comparatively young site, William Hill Poker has managed to grow a good degree of poker traffic with up to 2,600 cash game players and as much as 12,000 tournament players (peak hours in January 2007.)
Playability
A review of William Hill Poker would not be complete without mentioning their stunning, colorful 3D graphics, which makes William Hill Poker an interesting online internet poker room to play your favorite poker game at. The poker tables and lobby are nice to look at and should not present any problems to players who play for half a day in one session.
William Hill Poker has the unique option of allowing the poker player to use the typical bird's-eye Top View or the seated poker player's point-of-view called Side View when viewing the action at the poker tables. Both look nice, but the Side View is especially neat. It has 3D animated avatars that actually move. And their actions are spoken by the characters. If you haven't tried this before, it's definately worth a look.
The William Hill Poker table window is a bit large and in the default Side Chat mode, the added chat window makes it especially bulky. William Hill Poker offers a Table Chat mode that gets rid of the extra side chat window and instead gives you a small, floating chat window that may be moved around within the table window, but curiously, this mode doesn't allow you to type anything into the chat.
Customer service
