PokerStars is one of the larger sites, which also can be seen by the number of players.
Bonus
Players accumulate Frequent Players Points by playing poker in real money games, MTTs and Sit & Go's that have a buy-in. However, playing in any of the FREE poker games will not earn any FPP points. Later you will be able to spend these players points on various cool poker stuff, enter special poker tournaments or even participate in world poker events.
Software
Since opening with an extended beta testing stage, Poker Stars has had the most stable and functional software of all the online poker rooms. Even with tournament sizes of more than a thousand people the software runs quickly and smoothly.
The statistics provided to players are comprehensive. The lobby lists tables with average pot size, players per flop and hands per hour. Statistics offered to seated players include flop seen by position, pots won with showdown and pots won without showdown. In tournaments players can also see their current position and the average chip stack sizes of the players remaining.
Poker Stars: How easy is it to make money here?
We have not put time into PokerStars like we have at e.g. PartyPoker, however, we have played several poker tournaments at PokerStars and have had some ring game sessions. Overall, the players are a wee bit better than at PartyPoker but you can still find fish at PokerStars (all though at a much lesser ratio). This is most likely due to the fact that PokerStars only on very rare occasions offer any bonuses. And when they finally do it is at very low levels.
The ring games we've played in seemed to have several big chip stacks, with players playing multiple tables. The game seems a bit tighter, with smaller average pot sizes relative to PartyPoker, even though you can sit down with twice the amount of money - $50 at the $.25-.50 NL tables.
We were still able to come ahead at my ring game sessions, but it was a bit tougher of a grind, and you really have to pick your battles.
Player traffic
The traffic at PokerStars is market leading. There are fewer players in ring games than in tournaments, but the cash numbers has caught up lately. Quite many players are in Europe, so there is good poker action at European evening time. At peak hours, the number of real money players in ring games touches the 20.000 mark, while tournament traffic peaks at an astonishing 115.000 real money players
Playability
The PokerStars interface offers player notes, your own statistics, and a very nice, flexible hand history feature allowing you to specify the number of previous hands, or hours, or a day, or a poker tournament.
The PokerStars lobby is well organized which makes it simple to find the game and stakes of your liking.
Additionally, PokerStars is the only online internet poker room that provides their poker players with completely customizable, private, multi-table poker tournaments. This means that you can set up your own public or private poker tournament, and be able to accomodate any and all poker players that are interested.
Because players can set the buy-in's and date/time's for these poker tournaments, there are always multi-table tournaments happening at PokerStars. If you like tournament action, Poker Stars is a great poker room for you...but you have to be on top of your game if you want to win.
All in all PokerStars is all right, but one thing pulls down its grade: It is not all the simple to find the bet amounts and pot sizes on the PokerStars table.
Customer service
Poker Stars's customer service is only done through email. We have used it a couple of times, and they were very helpful. However, we generally like it when a poker room also has phone and live support in addition to email support. Nevertheless, they get a very good score because their customer service is among the most competent in the industry.
